![]() Only two of the six trailers delivered by Milnes in 1894 survive today, 34, 35, 38 and 39 all succumbed to the fire at Laxey Car Sheds in 1930. Despite receiving new wheels and a repaint in the mid 1960s 36 has not carried passengers since the early 1970s (1972?) and spent a prolonged period of storage at Laxey. 36 currently resides on the Stores Road at Derby Castle works and today remains one of the few MER cars to retain it's Scotch Brakes. 36 is captured at the rear of Laxey Car Sheds on 3rd May 2002 prior to transfer to Douglas. ![]() In the early part of 1993 Trailer 37 was treated to a full repaint by volunteers from the Manx Electric Society as their contribution to the Year of Railways Celebrations. Considerable efforts were made to restore the car's painted pillars to their original varnished appearance, the attractive result of which is apparent from this photo taken at Ramsey during August 1993. 37 was often seen in service coupled up to Paddlebox 26, another car which benefited from paint attention by MER Society volunteers. Seeing limited use over the last 21 years and despite being out of service awaiting attention to its axles, 37's coat of paint remains in relatively good condition today. Photo: A. Spencer |
