United Electric Car Company Cars Nos. 32 & 33.

The most powerful cars in the fleet are U.E.C. Crossbench Cars 32 & 33 of 1906. Both cars are fitted with 4 x General Electric 60 27.5 hp motors giving a total power output of 110 hp. The Brill 27cx trucks also make for a smooth ride. Car 32 was the personal favourite of former MER Society Chairman and MER Motorman, the late A.M. Goodwyn who lavished hours of his own time painting the car including white wall tyres which are visible in this view. 32 is seen here outward bound at Groudle whilst working a nocturnal Private Hire to Ramsey on Friday 20th August 1992. The tour participants well remember the pleasure of riding back to Douglas chasing the 9.15pm service car from Ramsey in the dark, on the front bench of No.32. MER ride of a lifetime. Photo: A.S. Sister Car 33 and regular partner, Trailer 61 are seen here at Ramsey also on the 20th August 1992 having worked the 1.30pm ex Douglas service. Was this the last occassion when both 32 & 33 both visited Ramsey on the same day ? Photo: A.S. Spencer
